Split bills with AI: scan the receipt or just say it

4 min read

Most expense apps still make you type the amount, pick who paid, and tick who took part — for every single expense. AI removes that friction. Here are the three ways it speeds things up.

1. Type it in plain words

Write it like you'd tell a friend: "dinner with Alex and Sam, I paid 90, split three ways." The model reads the amount, who paid and who shares, and builds the expense for you. Say "32 each" and it multiplies by the group automatically.

2. Say it out loud

Hands full after a supermarket run? Tap the mic and speak. The same understanding applies, so a sentence becomes a split expense without typing a thing.

3. Scan the receipt

For a long bill, a photo beats typing. AI reads the items and prices, you mark who had what, and the split is exact — down to the shared bottle of wine and the tip.

You stay in control

AI proposes; you confirm. Before anything is saved, you see exactly what it assumed — who paid, how many people, the amount each — and can fix it in a tap. It's a head start, not a black box.

Why it matters

The reason people stop tracking shared costs is friction: it's just enough effort to put off, and then it piles up. Cut the effort to a sentence or a photo and the accounts actually stay current — which is the whole point.
